Next two brief reports, written by students of the Comenius-project

The European Comenius-project

We have a project running with Spain and England. First of all we introduced ourselves and we wrote about our hobbies. A few weeks later we wrote about our families, but we also received letters from England and Spain. The next month we had visitors from England and Spain. A few month later all of us had been on a boat ride. Weeks passed by and finally we received letters again. Then we had to describe our houses and where we live. One or two weeks went by, before we introduced our city. We, class 4a, had to describe the Old Bridge across the river Main and the Residence. At the Old Bridge we had to read a text out loud in front of a video-camera. When we have been inside the Residence, we were not allowed to make a video-film, but we asked for a permission to take pictures. Outside in the gardens we were able to film again.

  • special information from England and Spain for the team

Pictures showing our Comenius-display at school, where the lastest works and pictures are presented. Also actual information for the team-members in England, Spain and Germany ist displayed.

The following project-schedule for 2004/05 shows, what we have planned:

First Term: Autumn 2004

Calendar (and Booklet for Recipes)

  • each school creates a calendar for 2005, size DIN A 3, one sheet per month, three times - one calendar for each partner-school and one to remain at the own school
  • the calendars are written in the country’s own language; added to that are the translated key words on the back of the paper; this should help for the conversation about the regional and traditional festivals in each country
  • display of the three calendars next to each other, to realise the differences and similarities of the monthly happenings in each country
  • additive until the 31.12.2004 is a collection of traditional recipes from each country; the arrangement is organized by the German partner-school

Second Term: Spring 2005

Making a video of  local history

  • taking a video of local traditions respective legends; students explain them and show them in different ways (talking, dancing, theatre-Performance, mimics, signing etc.)
  • videos are made in the country’s own language, but should be kept simple, to make a translation by the teachers at the partner-schools easier
  • additive until the 15.03.2005 is the mailing of the recipe-booklets to the partner schools, so that different dishes can be prepared and tasted

Third Term: Summer 2005

Permanent Object and evaluation through students

  • creating a permanent object as a reminder of the three years Comenius project, including an element of each partner school:

    - England: cultivating a Comenius-garden; elements from partner schools:
      typical plants from each country
    - Spain: creating a Comenius-Mosaic-wall; elements from partner schools:
tiles or ceramic pieces with school emblem
    - Germany: Comenius-Wall-drawing (open door); elements from partner
schools: tiles or wooden pieces with school emblem
  • on 8th of June 2005 there is a final evaluation meeting in Spain

    - evaluation of the project in general
    - preparation of the evaluation report for the ministry in each country
    - evaluation by the students
    - effectiveness and long-term value of the different communication forms
    - effectiveness and results from the teacher exchanges/visits, also concerning
      the home school
  • until 15th of June 2005 there is an evaluation through the students concerning
    the following questions:

    - What do I remember about the project?
    - What did I learn / get to know?
    - What has been real fun?
    - What did I like most?
    - What else would I like to know about the partner countries?
  • additive there will be a resumé about the geographical and cultural differences between the regions of the partner schools

Besides, it will be discussed how working together can be carried on within the Comenius-project or even afterwards.
